For this project in the first year, we were asked to develop a concept and design a project within a parking lot. We were to use the space of two parking spots in the selected parking lot as the maximum ground floor area. The building had to have both public and private use and it should have a clear view to the Canterbury Cathedral.

Volumetric studies, using cardboard and Lego looking at using 2 parking spots as a base but having the top parts larger. From these studies and because of my site, which was a parking lot next to a river, I decided I wanted to design a drive in cinema in the parking lot space for the public and a living space towards the river for a resident filmmaker. The two spaces are about 4 meters apart, therefore looking at my volumetric models I thought I could use a crane mechanism to connect the two, and have one of the rooms traveling between the two sides. This way, the filmmaker can also choose the view the room shows according to his mood.
